Dakoda Armstrong Rallies for 19th Place Finish in Bristol

BRISTOL, TN (April 23, 2017) - The track known as "The World's Fastest Half Mile" has not been too kind to Dakoda Armstrong over the years and a mechanical issue on his No. 28 WinField United Toyota in qualifying would make things even tougher on Saturday.  However, the New Castle, Indiana native and his JGL Racing team would stay focused and endure the elements of multiple red flag conditions and a rain-delay to secure a 19th place finish in the running of the Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

"We battled many elements today but everyone hung together and we were able to salvage a decent finish for ourselves," said Armstrong.  "We had an electrical issue that was cutting out the engine during qualifying.  We were forced to diagnose and do repairs and had to start the race from the rear of the field - and that is a very difficult thing to do at Bristol.  We battled it and made our No. 28 WinField United Toyota better throughout the entire race."

As a result of the necessary repairs with the issue during qualifying, Armstrong would start the 300-lap event from the rear of the field.  The first stage of the event would find Dakoda work his way through traffic while also reporting that his No. 28 WinField United Toyota was just a little too tight.  A few trips down pit road under caution in the second stage allowed for some key adjustments which seemed to help as Armstrong had moved inside the top-25 when a rain delay occurred on lap 162.

Back to racing after an hour and a half rain delay, action would resume under sunny skies and Armstrong and his JGL Racing continued to improve the handling of their No. 28 WinField United Toyota.  While steering clear of multiple on track incidents in the last half of the race, Dakoda continued to charge forward and take the checkered flag for his sixth top-20 finish of the season.

"The guys made some great adjustments and our No. 28 WinField United Toyota was at its best right there at the end of the race," added Dakoda.  "It was a challenging weekend for all of us with the weather, shortened practice and the electrical issue during qualifying.  But I am proud of everyone on my team who worked hard and it showed in our ability to post a decent finish."

The 19th-place finish kept Armstrong sitting 11th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series overall driver standings - 18 points behind 10th place.

Armstrong and his JGL Racing team will next head to Richmond International Raceway for the running of the ToyotaCare 250.  The eighth race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday April 29th and can be seen LIVE on Fox Sports 1 at 1:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
