Dakoda Armstrong Survives Mid-Race Spin to Come Home 16th at Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (April 30, 2017) -  Dakoda Armstrong has grown to like racing at Richmond International Raceway and that affinity paid off for him on Saturday.  Armstrong would survive a mid-race spin and regain the loss of two laps on the field to steer his No. 28 Toyota to a much deserved 16th place finish in the running of the ToyotaCare 250.

"That was an eventful day but everyone on this JGL Racing team kept working hard," said Armstrong.  "We battled a loose race car for most of the race and that was really hurting my drive off the corners.  There about mid race I got a little crossed up in turns 1 & 2 and we did a little slide job.  We all kept digging and we were able to get back two laps we had lost to the field to get back on the lead lap late in the race."

Armstrong would start the 250-lap event from the 18th position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day.  In the early portions of the race Dakoda would radio to his crew that his No. 28 Toyota was just too loose for him to be as aggressive as he needed to be.  At the completion of the first stage Dakoda would sit in the 23rd position and be one lap down to the leaders.

The second stage would be much of the same with the loose condition on the No. 28 Toyota.  Armstrong would continue to battle through the condition until lap 116 when he lost control of his No. 28 Toyota and spun around in turns 1 & 2.  This would cost Dakoda another lap to the field and had him sitting in the 30th position and two laps down at the end of the second stage.

A determined driver and team would use the last 100 laps of the event to regain the two lost laps and return to the lead lap in the late stages of the event.  With a better handling No. 28 Toyota, Armstrong would scratch and claw his way inside the top-20 and sit in the 16th spot when the checkered flag flew.

"Everyone just kept working hard today and we got a little luck on our side and were able to get back on the lead lap," added Dakoda.  "Hopefully the last few weeks will help us build some positive momentum as we head to Talladega next week.."

The 16th-place finish kept Armstrong sitting 11thin the NASCAR XFINITY Series overall driver standings - 20 points behind 10th place.

Armstrong and his JGL Racing team will next head to Talladega Superspeedway for the running of the Spark Energy 300.  The ninth race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday May 6th and can be seen LIVE on FOX at 1:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
